The Internet of Things (IoT) is the collective name for the next generation of smart devices, which can independently perform certain actions with as little user intervention as possible. These devices can communicate with other devices, but also with people.

Internet of Things practical applications

A well-known example of a practical application of the Internet of Things is that of the Smart Thermostat. It uses sensors to see if it is useful to increase the temperature by checking if someone is in the house. When this device is connected to the internet, it can use the weather forecast and humidity to check the strength at which the heating should be raised. The thermostat can do all this without the intervention of a person. Another example is that of lampposts that switch on automatically when someone approaches. And not with a motion sensor, but hundreds of meters in advance because people do not like it when it suddenly becomes lighter.

Or think, for example, of cows where all kinds of things are measured to increase milk production. Sensors help devices to become smart, such as, for example, placing a heart rate monitor in a smartwatch allows the user to monitor their health. This also provides a lot of data from which information can be retrieved. Major players such as Apple and Google also see the potential of IoT, and are also marketing their own products for this. All in all, IoT is the next step where we are going, with one goal central: to increase the convenience of the end user.

You could work out all 5 cases and we would all be very happy, but the choice was made for a real-time solution for crowd management.

IoT at Paaspop

Info Support believes that the Internet of Things and Big Data are major forces behind progress. That is why we are constantly looking for new opportunities to use this. Info Support has organized a 24-hour hackathon in collaboration with Paaspop. The Info Support hackathon was aimed at making an impact on the visitors of Paaspop. To achieve this Info Support teamed up with a new generation of IT professionals, ie students and Young Professionals, and this turned out to be a good move.
