Bitlocker, laptop and server 2008

As some of you may know, I am at MCTSUmmit in Berlin these days, and of course I am hearing sessions on all kinds of things, one is server 2008 and security: they all have their mouth full of Bitlocker. so i decided to try it, but my HD configuration was not good for it, so I used my favorite search engine to see what I could do to solve my problem, it gave basically two options: setup your harddrive the correct way, and reinstall. or use the bitlocker drived preparation tool. So I searched for that one: it seems it is a vista ultimate extra, or you can ask for it with Microsoft Support… HMMMM not an option for me (both)….

So I asked our sysadmins if they could get it from MS. and what they first tried was: get the folder from a vista ultimate and zipped it. this was sent to me, I tried it and what happened:It worked like a charm. so this is the workaround for every body not using Vista Ultimate and not having a support contract for Vista Enterprise.

AFter the reboot, the following screen popped up:

so I clicked the link there…

another popup…

Now I have to choose: do I go with the preformance degradation and go for security or do I need the speed and leave out the security.

Tough choice….

I’ll keep you up-dated  on my choice….
