Getting more out of VS2010 Beta 2
A very interesting post on the new WPF and Silverlight designer (Cider) in Visual Studio 2010.
One of the things that stood out to me was this:
“The other piece of advice I would give you for Beta 2 is to make sure you’re running either Vista or Windows 7. Most of VS 2010’s performance testing was done using Vista and rather late we found that SuperFetch was giving us a profound improvement in performance. You won’t get that on XP or server operating systems.”
I nearly always test Beta software in VPC and I nearly always use a server OS. But when the product ships I install it on the ‘real’ hardware and a client OS. Now I never expect lighting performance from a Beta but I guess I could up my experience by switching to a different setup.
I can’t wait to get my hands on the RC, Beta 1 and 2 were very slow…
