Some cool announcements on Team System

Just to summarize some great new cool things that are happening in the team system space.

First of all with the introduction of Visual Studio “Orcas” unit testing will be part of the Professional edition.  This is something lots of people have been screaming for since the introduction of Team System and you can see that Microsoft listed to the feedback and made it available from Professional edition upward.

Furthermore Microsoft announced that they acquired dev biz, a company that provided a solution to accessing team system using a web front-end instead of the Team Foundation Client. This is a really cool thing. Since the introduction of Team System we have thought this was a big missing piece in the overall solution and now we will have it out of the box. Microsoft will integrate it in the future release of Orcas but provide it already as a free download! It will be further enhanced and released as part of the Power tool you can find on codeplex. But the version as is today can already be downloaded. Just as a short note: you require having a CAL when you access the TFS server using the website. So it is free for users that have a CAL but if it is used by end users to e.g. file bugs, they need a CAL for that. We have been using the web solution for a long time and I must say I think it is a must have and I am really excited to see Microsoft has this in their product offering now!

Last thing to note is a Team System Add-on that enables you to search through your work items! This is also a feature I wanted for a long time and you can find the announcement here: http://blogs.msdn.com/noahc/archive/2007/03/08/search-work-items-team-system-addin.aspx

We are also using this neat cool add-on and it works great. Now my project lead has no reasons any more to complain about TFS because he can’t find stuff we already fixed and it saves us from a lot of duplicate work-itemsJ
