Vista RC1 up and running, what works and what not
Well I am almost up and running now with Vista as my production environment. After installing lots of products today, you might be interested in what I found working and what not.
Stuff I installed that did work well up until now:
Visual Studio 2005 Team Suite
Visual Studio Team Explorer
Office 2007 Beta 2
Windows Live Messenger 8 Beta
Windows Live Writer Beta (This is where I am typing this post from :-))
Adobe 8.0
Flash player
Installed the Vista IIS services to run my websites
Enterprise Architect 6.1 (it does dome registration in the background using the regedit.exe tool. that will pop up quite some security dialogs, but once you have allowed them all it will work fine)
The only real problem I ran into is an issue that I can't solve easily. It is the fact that my smart-card reader (GemPlus USB) now does not recognize the cards I use for setting up a VPN. This is a rather painful problem and I hope I can get this fixed very soon. (Sure hope this does not forces me to switch back to XP).
Strange thing is that the reader it self seems to operate perfectly, but once I insert a card I will get the message the card is unusable for authentication.
Perhaps the biggest challenge I will face the coming days is to get the Games up and running my Son loves to play. But I have a dual boot, so he can play using XP.
All in all I must say that the RC seems pretty stable. I have been working on it whole day and did not run into any crashes or glitches yet. But I am only up and running for a day, so be careful if you follow the same path.
